How to Apply for a Tinted Glass Permit in Nigeria

Tinted glass permits in Nigeria are strictly regulated, and without proper approval, you may find yourself on the wrong side of the law. If you’re considering applying for a tinted permit for your vehicle, here’s a simple step-by-step guide to help you through the official process.

Step 1: Visit the Official Portal

Go to the official website: https://possap.gov.ng

Step 2: Select Tinted Permit Application

On the homepage, click on the “Tinted Permit” link under the quick-link menu.

Step 3: Register and Obtain Application ID

Fill in the registration form on the right side of the page. Once completed, you’ll receive an Application ID electronically. Keep this safe, as you’ll need it to continue.

Step 4: Log In to Complete the Application

Log in with your email address and the Application ID. Complete the application process as instructed.

Step 5: Fill in Your Bio-Data and Vehicle Information

When logged in, fill out the Bio-Data form and enter the details of your vehicle. Ensure all information matches your vehicle documents.

Step 6: Upload Required Documents

You’ll be asked to upload the following:

  • Vehicle license data page
  • POC
  • Passport photograph
  • Medical report (medical-related reason)

For medical-related applications, a medical report from a government hospital must also be uploaded.

Step 7: Print and Visit the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB)

Print out your application details. Take the printout to the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) at any Police Command to capture your biometrics.

Step 8: Medical Ground Applications

If you’re applying on medical grounds, bring original copies of all documents along with your medical report for verification before your biometrics can be captured.

Step 9: Processing and Collection

After completing these steps, your application will be processed. If successful, your tinted permit will be issued within five working days.

Extra Support

If you encounter challenges with the online process, you can visit the SIB office in your state or the Force Headquarters in Abuja for assistance.

Note: Tinted glass permits are only issued to applicants who meet the requirements stated in Section 66(2) of the National Road Traffic Regulation (1997) and Section 1(1) of the Motor Vehicle (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act.
